## What is Facial Shape?

Your facial shape describes the overall look and balance of your face. It depends on how long or wide different parts are compared to each other. Common shapes include oval, square, rectangle, round, heart-shaped, diamond and triangle. The length of your forehead, cheeks, jawline and overall face create the distinctive contours that define which shape category you fall into. Knowing your facial shape helps when choosing hairstyles, makeup and frames that suit your features.

### Formula

The formulas used to determine your face shape are based on the relative measurements of different parts of your face:

**Oval**: Face length > cheekbone width and forehead width > jawline length and jawline length > forehead width.**Square**: Face length = forehead width = cheekbone width = jawline length.**Rectangle**: Face length > forehead width = cheekbone width = jawline length.**Round**: Cheekbone width > face length > forehead width and forehead width > jawline length.**Heart**: Forehead width > cheekbone width > jawline length.**Diamond**: Face length > cheekbone width > forehead width > jawline length.**Triangle**: Jawline length > cheekbone width > forehead width.

Variables

Variable | Description |
---|---|

Face Length | Distance from top of forehead to bottom of chin |

Forehead Width | Distance across the widest part of the forehead |

Cheekbone Width | Distance across the most prominent part of the cheekbones |

Jawline Length | Distance from the tip of chin to below the ear at the jawline (multiplied by 2) |
